Background

Roger wished he had a matchbook while in the caves of Labion.

A book of matches could found on Kerona in Ulence Flats in the Rocket Bar. Various versions of it exist in multiple eras and timelines.

Roger had a Monolith matchbook in the post Space Quest V era (see Roger Wilco's Scrapbook) if this was another transformation (or another parallel version) of his matchbook from Ulence Flats is unknown.

Behind the scenes

The closeup of the item in the VGA version of SQ4, is actually in VGA resolution (or same scale in EGA resolution version too). However, its resolution on the counter before its picked up appears to be in AGI style. This maybe a case of an item evolving and 'up-ressing/upscaling' because Roger is interacting with it with his body from another 'evolved' resolution time frame. In the novel in The Space Quest Companion the entire planet something closer to the VGA SQ1, then those around him de-rezzed to something closer to Space Quest 1 AGI (Welcome to: Space Quest I—The Sarien Encounter (original version)).
