Estrosian Sea Slug

Background[]

The Sea Slug is a large semi-aquatic predator native to the planet of Estros. It resides in the planet's oceans and is suspected to nest in underwater caves. While undoubtedly capable of eating other aquatic animals, it prefers to prey on large land mammals.

Sea Slugs are of particular nuisance to the Latex Babes of Estros.

ComPost Database Entry[]

The multi-tentacled Sea Slug is a large, menacing carnivore with a squid-like beak. Its spectacular adaptive abilities and matchless ferocity ensure that it can easily survive for extended periods underwater, on land, or in space.

However, due to its numerous disgusting habits and unrestrained lifestyle, the Estrosian Sea Slug would not hold up for more than five minutes under the scrutiny of the liberal media.

Estrosian Sea Slugs eat all manner of creatures, particularly aquatic ones. Their favorite food, though, is the Latex Babe of Estros.

There are a number of differences compared to the version that is described in the SQ6 Compost, verses the version that appeared in the original game. For one thing the SQ4 Sea Slug didn't have tentacles, but rather two tongues that came out of its mouth.[1] Note these tentalces are called 'left and right' tentacle in the files too, but are clearly designated tongue as well in the actual descriptions.[2] They are however often called tentacles in the guides. It had two arm-like fins with hand-like structures at the end of them. It didn't have a squid-like beak, rather it has a divided mouth split into four sections of jaws like the sandworms of Arrakis (in some covers of Dune, or the Grell (original version), or the Graboids of Tremors). The tentacle tongues is similar graboids of Tremors too.

Squids and octpuses actually have two part beaks similar to shape of parrots.

Interestingly there is a different style of 'giant sea slug/flounderoid/estrosian sea slug' on the cover of the the Space Quest Companion which does have more than two tentacle, that appear to come from its sides or neck, and from its backend, as well as several more down its sides (just past the armpits of its forearms). As opposed to tentacles coming from its mouth, and it while not exactly squid beak-like, it does have a lower jaw that looks more beak like than the sandworm-like 'maw' of the SQ4 species. This version is more frog/grasshopper like looking like cerrtain species of newts, or catfish style face/mouth, with possible baleen in a somewhat whale-like lower jaw. It appears to have claws on its forearms.

Game Involvement[]

During Space Quest 4, Roger Wilco encountered a alternate species of these creatures known as Giant Sea Slug, while held captive by the Latex Babes of Estros. Quick thinking and an oxygen tank led Roger to victory over the Sea Slug, saving the Babes and himself in the process. Undoubtedly, had Roger failed, he'd have been eaten.

Mentions[]

The event with the 'giant sea slug' is mentioned in SQ5. It describes an event that is a bit different than actually happened in the game. Claiming he was taking a dip in a pool, and almost ended up as slug chow on Estros.[3]

This could however be describing a different event than that which happened in SQ4, where Roger went to Estros between SQ4 and SQ5, SQ6 already suggest Roger was already seeing the Latex Babes at some point before before SQ6, possibly before or during SQ5, and that they were upset at him for the fact he was two-timing when he started dating Beatrice Wankmeister (future version).
