[edit] StarCon Academy

What am I supposed to do at the start?

  • This is a place of learning, you know?
  • So maybe you should go to class.
  • The classroom is one of the rooms on the ring in line with the flight simulator. Look for a bulletin board next to the door.
  • Walk inside the room and see what happens next.

How do I pass this silly test?

  • Well, it's not exactly silly. You really need to pass it if you want to do well in the game.
  • Doesn't that guy sitting next to you look pretty smart?
  • I'm sure that if you were him, you'd be able to pass the test.
  • His screen is within easy viewing range.
  • All you have to do is make sure that you don't get caught.
  • Use the eye icon to look at the smart cadet's test whenever the proctor isn't looking at you (when you can't see his eyes).
  • The top answer box is "A" and the bottom is usually "E". Don't worry about keeping up with the cadet - he's taking the test at the same speed you are.

What does the professor want me to do now?

  • I think he mentioned something about cleaning the emblem on the floor of the rotunda. That's the room just to the outside of the ring where the classroom is.
  • Of course, you'll need cleaning supplies too. Fortunately, they're within easy reach. Look at the rooms along the inner ring of the Academy. Get both the floor scrubber and the orange safety cones.
  • Now you can take the turbolift down to the bottom floor.
  • I would advise dropping the three cones to make sure people don't get hurt.
  • You're ready to unfold the scrubber and then hop in it. Unfortunately, you need to get every last spot - the sequence will stop by itself when you've finished. EGA users may not be able to tell when they're finished, but Sierra has a patch that will let you skip this scene.
  • Sit back and watch Quirk and Wankmeister walk by to admire your work.

Surely, I'm supposed to get a reward for my hard work!

  • You're not going to get anything for scrubbing the floor, but that scene with the rat in the computer must have given you an idea as to what you can do next.
  • The SAT scores are ready. Go check the bulletin board near the classroom to get yours.
  • You need to pass the test at this point. If you didn't, another question in this section tells you how you can do that.

[edit] Gangularis and Peeyu

I don't like my assignment! How can I get out of it?

  • I hate to tell you this, but you can't. Just do your job to the best of your abilities and hope that something else better comes along.

How do I pilot this ship?

  • Technically, it's not the captain's job to pilot the ship.
  • You have a navigation officer to do that for you.
  • I suggest using the command icon from your captain's chair. Look over the choices that you have, and see if anything looks like it might work. Keep reading if you want the directions.
  • Tell Droole to lay in a course. The next question tells you what the coordinates are.
  • Then you should tell Droole to go to lite speed.
  • Once you approach your destination, go to regular speed.
  • What you do next depends on where you are. You may need to enter standard orbit if you're around a planet, or pick up waste if that's your mission.

Where am I supposed to find the coordinates to give to Droole?

  • I'd suggest looking through the INQUIRER that came with your game package.
  • Now, for those of you who got through that last question, look at Gir Draxon's predictions, on pages 17 and 18 of the magazine. Take a good look at the words on the "background" of the text.
  • Don't any of those names look the least bit familiar?
  • They should, because Gangularis and Peeyu are both listed in clear print. Kiz Urazgubi is simply listed as KU, but you still get the idea. The codes you need to give Droole are the five-digit numbers under each name.

What am I supposed to do on Gangularis?

  • Remember that you're here to pick up the trash floating around the planet.
  • That means that you should activate your refuse (waste) retrieval system.
  • It's also called the "RRS". Droole can activate it for you.

What should I do at Peeyu?

  • Haven't you already been to Gangularis?
  • If so, then you know what to do here. See the last question for details.

What do I do about the life form in the trash compartment?

  • Aren't you the least bit curious about what's in there?
  • Maybe you should open the trash, then. There's a button next to the door.
  • Oops. You let out a pretty nasty little creature.
  • You should look on the next-to-last page of the Inquirer for a hint here.
  • Those creatures (face huggers) are really friendly little creatures.
  • If you could only get near it, it might actually come to you.
  • Talk to Cliffy. He'll tell you where to find Spike.
  • He's hiding in the bio lab. Go in there and wait. He'll come eventually.
  • The ship isn't a suitable place for Spike to live. You can probably find a more appropriate habitat.
  • Try the habitube.
  • One last problem: the creature is very acidic. You may need to take care of that now. Something on the ship will solve the problem for you.
  • Look in Cliffy's toolbox for the item you need.
  • Try putting the antacid in the tube.

[edit] Kiz Urazgubi

How do I avoid the robot's ship?

  • Easy answer. You can't.
  • I'd suggest that you just go down to the planet and try to reason with W-D40.
  • OK, maybe not. Try to destroy her, then.

So how do I take care of W-D40?

  • First, I'd suggest looking around the area to see what resources you have.
  • Did you notice a boulder on the screen with the gap in the path?
  • It would be nice if you could crush W-D40 under that boulder.
  • If you notice, W-D40 will follow you just about everywhere you go.
  • And you should notice that the boulder would roll into the cave to the left of that gap if you pushed it.
  • If you're quick enough, that's where W-D40 will be when you push the boulder.
  • Now all you need to do is find something to free it.
  • There's really very little here. You may have to go out on a limb to do anything.
  • Well, I mean that literally. Take a look at the tree on the screen with the giant log.
  • Try walking on the tree to see what happens.
  • Don't worry, you now have a stick that can help you.
  • Climb up to the boulder as quickly as you can (try the hand icon on the boulder to get you there), and then use the stick on the boulder. If you get a message saying that timing is important, you waited too long. You need to leave the screen and make sure to walk through the cave to the left of the gap, to trigger her appearance again. Just keep trying until you get her.

How do I get that fruit?

  • It's too bad that your arms aren't just a little longer.
  • Well, they can be if you have the proper tools.
  • You really don't need that fruit until after you've injured W-D40 for the first time. Go back and read the last question if you haven't done so yet.
  • You have the item you need to reach that fruit.
  • Use the stick and hit the fruit. Grab it once it's in reach.
  • I would suggest entering the screen with the fruit from the left side and crawling through the log. That way, you won't trigger W-D40's appearance.

How am I supposed to finish W-D40 off?

  • Make sure that she can no longer cloak. You need to have taken care of her as described earlier in this section, before you can finish off these hints.
  • Have you tried eating the fruit that you found (see the last question for hints if you don't already have it)?
  • Then you know that it could really plug someone up.
  • I bet it might even work on an android.
  • Try to find a suitable place where you can "feed" her from.
  • I'd say that the middle of that hollow log is a good place.
  • Wait until W-D40 appears, and use the fruit on her.

Why did I beam back down to a different location?

  • As Cliffy said, that leftover part from W-D40 probably had something to do with it.
  • Don't you wonder what the device does?
  • Try using it on yourself.
  • Hop on that anti-grav lift to get inside W-D40's ship.

How am I supposed to get the cloaking device?

  • Well, look at that non-descript panel on the right half of W-D40's ship.
  • I'll tell you know that there's no way to keep the alarm from starting.
  • There's really no logic here - it's all trial-and-error. Fortunately, you have enough time to play around.
  • I'd start out by pulling the two levers, starting with the top one.
  • In case you didn't know, you can open each of the four sections of the panel around the device separately. In fact, you need to open then separately.
  • Start by turning the knobs in the upper-left and lower-right corners. Open the panels in those two corners.
  • Then turn the other two knobs. Open the upper-right and lower-left panels.
  • You can take the cloaking device and get out of here.

Where am I supposed to go next?

  • Once you have the cloaking device, return to the Eureka.
  • Droole and Flo will both suggest your next destination. Try the Spacebar.
  • Its coordinates are in the tabloid with all of the rest.

[edit] The Space Bar

What am I supposed to do here?

  • Well, first of all, be friendly and sit down with your crew.
  • Eventually, Quirk will invite you to play a game. Go play it.
  • Then, you should know what to do once Cliffy is put in the brig.
  • Rescue him! Additional questions give you more information.

How can I beat Quirk at this game?

  • When in doubt, cheat.
  • Remember that you have access to the Sierra control panel, but he doesn't.
  • So you can save and restore to speed up your progress.
  • Specifically, I would suggest restoring if you don't get a hit and saving if you do to maximize your chances of winning.
  • You can also use those probes to speed up your game.
  • Launch as many probes as you can and then restore when they're gone. If you found any ships, you can hit them after you've restored.

How can I reach the brig?

  • Did you read the warning on the space monkey package?
  • Aren't you the least bit curious about why you can't put them in alcohol?
  • Oh, come on! Try it!
  • Put them in your drink back at your table.
  • Now you know why - they reproduce very quickly. But you can take advantage of the big panic to reach the brig.

How do I get Cliffy out of the brig?

  • Well, make sure you can get to the brig first. See the previous question if you need help with that.
  • You need something that will eat metal, but not eat Cliffy.
  • Remember that the bars are made of metal.
  • Do you remember anything else that could break through metal?
  • How about a little friend of yours?
  • Spike will do the job if you go back and get him.
  • Just drop him on the bars and he'll dig out Cliffy.
  • I'm not sure about this, but you may need to put antacid in the habitube before you take Spike out. It's worth a couple of points, so it wouldn't hurt to do it, even if it isn't necessary.

[edit] Klorox II

What do I do here?

  • There's really very little you can do. I would suggest that you start by orbiting the planet and beaming down to see what you can find.
  • Only one place is currently open. It's the greenhouse in the middle of the screen, towards the back end.
  • And there's only one thing that you can do in the greenhouse: look at the computer.
  • Well, I wouldn't let that puke monster spit on you once he arrives.
  • All you need to do is use the arrow cursor to dodge him until help arrives.
  • I would suggest looking for that secret path that he talks about.
  • It's on the left edge of the left screen.

How do I get into the computer in the greenhouse?

  • Did you notice what happened when the puke monster attacked you?
  • He dropped a slip of paper to the left of the computer.
  • Pick it up. That has a five-digit code.
  • And you need to input a five-digit number into the computer.
  • That's the code you need.

How can I read the canister on the hill?

  • Did you go in the greenhouse yet?
  • Then you should have talked to the pukoid.
  • He told you there was a secret path somewhere in the area.
  • Try going to the left of the outside screen on the left.
  • Then once you're close to the canister, you can look at it.
  • That code on the canister is important. It's the coordinates for Genetix.

[edit] Thrakus

What do I do here?

  • As always, check with your crew to see what's in the area.
  • Aren't you the least bit curious about that escape pod beacon?
  • Go down to the surface to see what you can find.

Where do I find air supply for the planet?

  • The pod bay probably has what you're looking for.
  • The items you need are hidden in two different panels.
  • Both are located to the left of the space suit and the right of the airlock.
  • You'll need an oxygen tank and a rebreather. Then you can transport down to the surface by wearing the rebreather while you're on the transporter pad.

How can I track down the person in the escape pod?

  • First of all, start by looking in the pod.
  • It might help to clean up the mess that the occupant left.
  • Take the frock.
  • Look! A homing beacon!
  • Try pressing it to see if the person shows up.
  • Well, you might as well walk around until he/she shows up. Go to the left side of the area to see what happens.

How can I keep Beatrice from falling?

  • You must have found something that she can grab hold of.
  • What about that frock from the escape pod?

How do I get out of here myself?

  • Crawling up would be a little hard.
  • But you could probably manage to transport up.
  • Try calling the Eureka with your communicator.
  • Well, that didn't work, but Beatrice has given you something.
  • Grab onto the vine, and then you'll be able to get out of there.

Beatrice has been hit by the pukoids!

  • Haven't you listened to everyone's advice?
  • There's only one thing that will slow the progress of her mutations.
  • Try putting her in the cryogenic chamber.
  • It always helps to read instructions.
  • They're on the control panel.
  • It says that you need to freeze her for ten seconds.
  • So enter "10" on the control panel and freeze her. You'll have to wait until later before you can find a cure.

Help! I'm under attack from the Goliath!

  • Well, see what your options are at the weapons console.
  • Talk to Droole and he'll tell you what you can do.
  • Raising your shields would be in order.
  • There's a nice asteroid belt to protect you.
  • Try "evasive action" and then wait until the Goliath leaves.

How do I rescue Cliffy?

  • You have something in the pod bay that's made for rescues.
  • It's the EVA. You'll need to use it to rescue him.
  • First of all, start by rotating the pod with the control unit and hopping in.
  • The controls are really pretty easy. Move the cursor around and the arrow will show you what you're about to do.
  • Cliffy is the red dot on the radar screen. Start by flying to him.
  • Once you're close enough, you'll get a "Target in range" message.
  • So now's the time to use the claw to grab him.
  • Move the arm forward, hit CLAW to open the claw and CLAW again to close it.
  • You can now fly back to the Eureka and get your points for a job well done.

[edit] Genetix Dome

So how do I get here?

  • See the hints about looking at the canister on Klorox II.
  • You'll find the code (41666) there.

Help me! I've been turned into a fly!

  • Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong. But you may want to see if you can fix the problem.
  • Doesn't it seem a little convenient that your communicator is within easy reach?
  • Well, it would be easy to reach if you weighed enough. See if you can find something to press the transmit button for you.
  • Have you noticed a frog-like creature jumping around in the pond?
  • Well, he might be willing to help. Or he may want to eat you.
  • They're both really the same. Just fly around the communicator for a while and he'll land on your communicator for you.
  • Now you can talk to Flo and get some help.
  • I would suggest following her advice and checking out the lab to the west.
  • In specific, look at the security cameras for dome 3 on the computer. Once you look at all the different views, Cliffy will arrive.
  • Do as he says and take him to the dumpster in the back.
  • Then walk near the rest of your body and you'll return to "normal."

How do I get inside the room to the west?

  • When you're a fly it's pretty easy, since you're very tiny.
  • All you need to do is fly through the security card slot.
  • As a human, it's a little more difficult. I hope you remember what you saw as a fly.
  • You must remember those beams of light in the slot.
  • You should have noticed that walking through some of them triggered part of the lock, but that other beams didn't.
  • You want to create a security card that opens all of the locks at the same time, but that doesn't also block any of the other beams.
  • You already have another sort of card that will do the trick.
  • And an item that will create the holes for you.
  • Use the hole punch on the business card. Punch holes in each of the corners and in the center of the card (like the dots on a "5" on dice).

What it is that I'm supposed to get here at Genetix?

  • For one thing, get all the information you can out of the computer.
  • You should have found out that extreme cold knocks out the pukoids.
  • Wouldn't you like to make a weapon out of cold?
  • All you need is something cold enough to do the trick. Look around.
  • There are liquid nitrogen tanks in the back-left area of the lab. Hit the little black thing there to open the door and take them. You're ready to leave.

What is Spike trying to tell me?

  • Look at the choices. It should be painfully obvious.
  • Tell Cliffy to use the transporter to heal Beatrice.
  • Of course, you'll need to get her out of the cryo tank.
  • Read the directions that told you how to freeze her in the first place.
  • They say that you should defrost her for ten seconds.
  • Now you can put Bea on the transporter to heal her.

[edit] Gingivitis (Endgame)

What do I do once I'm here?

  • As usual, your crew has some helpful advice.
  • You need to secretly enter the Goliath to turn off the shields.
  • By now, Cliffy and W-D40 should have found a way for your ship to approach the Goliath secretly.
  • The cloaking device!
  • Tell Cliffy to cloak the ship once you reach Goliath.

How do I get onboard the Goliath?

  • Talk to Cliffy once you reach the Goliath. He has more advice for you.
  • You can use the EVA to get you on the Goliath. Watch the projector for the safest place to land.
  • It's one of the sections along the body of the ship, in the middle-left.
  • I hope you have a way of opening up the ship.
  • You need something strong enough to get through all that metal.
  • Try using the laser drill on the ship once you've opened the EVA's hatch.

How do I avoid all of these pukoids?

  • Getting past the first guard is easy. It's all a matter of hiding.
  • Just don't go up to the door until the guard has come and left.
  • Once you're out of that first room, it gets tougher. No door is safe.
  • But there are other things that you can open.
  • Try going under the guards that are in the hallway.
  • You must have noticed those grates on the floor.
  • Try picking one of them up. You'll be able to sneak past the guards.

What's the trick to the maze?

  • It's mainly a matter of trial and error, unfortunately.
  • Your basic goal is to get up to the second level of the ship.
  • You'll have to crawl through the turbolift shafts when they're free. That means that you may have to duck in and out of the shafts until the turbolift car gets out of the way.
  • You should notice that some levels have more than one turbo shaft. Those extra shafts will help you reach your destination.
  • You basically want to go up whenever possible.
  • The exact directions follow if you can't figure out the maze for yourself: "North" (N) is to the back of the screen; "South" (S) to the front; "East" (E) is to the right; and "West" (W) is to the left.
  • N. E. N. Enter the shaft and go to level 6 (up two doors).
  • S. W. N. N. E. N. Enter the shaft and go to level 4 (up two levels).
  • S. W. N. N. W. W. N. Enter the shaft and go to level 2 (up two again).
  • S. S. W. S. E. S. Flip the switch.

How do I get off Quirk's bridge?

  • Did you provide Cliffy with ammunition against the pukoids?
  • You should have found something at Genetix to do the job.
  • If you didn't get the liquid nitrogen, it's too late to do anything now. You'll have to restore and try again.

When do I give Cliffy the signal to heal the pukoids?

  • Well, you should wait until they're all on the transporter pad.
  • You should know that these automatic doors won't close if people are moving around.
  • So wait until the doors shut and then give the signal.

What do I do once the blob attacks the Goliath?

  • Well, it is a hostile creature.
  • Returning the favor would only be nice.
  • Tell Droole to fire on it.

The blob has turned to attack me!

  • Think about what the blob is made of.
  • It's nothing but trash.
  • So treat it appropriately.
  • Tell Droole to activate the RRS.

Now what do I do next?

  • You mean after you've captured the blob?
  • I hate to tell you, but you're never going to keep the blob in the trash.
  • If you don't take immediate action, it will escape.
  • Losing the Eureka wouldn't be such a big deal.
  • And the only way you can take out that blob is with a big explosion.
  • There's a self-destruct button on your command chair. Press it.

Why isn't the transporter working?

  • You're going to have to fix it yourself.
  • Haven't you wondered what to do with the maintenance tunnel in engineering?
  • There's a pretty little diagram that explains what each of the fuses are for.
  • One of them happens to be for the transporter.
  • You should have a spare fuse from Cliffy's tool box.
  • Pull out the old fuse and put in the new one.

How do I get past the blob?

  • There's only one place you want to go.
  • To the transporter/bio lab.
  • So just head there.
  • Getting the game to let you is really just an interface problem. Use the hand icon on the door to jump over the blob.
  • Don't forget Beatrice and Spike when you transport off the ship.

How do I get the Goliath running?

  • Do you remember what Beatrice did to it earlier?
  • She pulled out the warp distributor cap.
  • You want to put it back. There's a place for it in the room where you first enter the ship. That's all there is.
  • So now you can sit back and watch that long ending.
