Ever since he toodled around with King Graham in Kings Quest 1 at age three, Ben has had a fascination with adventure games. Sure, he couldn't type, and usually just walked the poor king into the river, where he'd die, or Graham would get taken by that darn witch, but Ben persisted. After all these years Ben is still playing adventure games, and has tried to develop them all by himself on several occasions. He was met with the stunning realization that even though he had lots of ideas for adventures, he was very weak on the art/programming/music/etc side of the business.
